Jesuit ConferenceName & title: Marcus Bleech, designer/production manager Institution & publication: Jesuit Conference, National Jesuit News Type of publication: Newspaper Readership audience: Jesuits and a few others Number of pages: 20-24 Frequency of publication: Bi-monthly Circulation: 6,500 Color: 4-color Interesting facts about the publication: World's most trusted news source. Basic style manual: AP Stylebook, other Other style manuals: CNS Style Guide Reason for using the manual: Inherited Dictionary: Merriam-Webster Other dictionary: dictionary.com Reason for using dictionary: Pound for pound the thickest, and therefore automatically better. Other resources: Roget's Thesaurus Items on our house style sheet not covered in our manual: Abbreviate religious titles, and after first usage only go by last names. High Mass is capitalized. Items on our house stylesheet that override our manual: AP says use "Rev.", CNS says "Father", but NJN use "Fr." SJ (Society of Jesus) is written without periods. NJN uses "SJ" in bylines, but CNS says not to. CNS recommends spelling out the religious order and THEN the name for bylines, but this seems to take up too much space. Unresolved issues: Have run into questions regarding multiple citations in text, plus a Bible verse and ending quotation marks. Tried to use an MLA style (circa 1992) to get around it, but it looked stupid. Difficult to describe in words, if anyone's terribly interested I'll be happy to bore you in person in July. |
